IncoNet CA/SC facilitates the participation of Central Asian and South Caucasus reserachers in networking event in Germany
The 4th "Successful R&D in Europe" European Networking Event took place on 8th and 9th of March 2012 at Duesseldorf Airport. Some 350 participants from 28 countries were given an international platform from which to launch EU projects.
Dr. Marc Jan Eumann, North Rhine-Westphalia's Secretary of State for European Affairs, gave the opening address and was pleased to welcome a high-ranking representative of the European Commission, Dr. Rudolf W. Strohmeier, Deputy Director-General for Research Programmes, Research and Innovation Directorate-General. Dr. Strohmeier gave an overview of the next calls for proposals within the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), as well as of the continuation of funding from 2014 onwards under the “Horizon 2020” programme.
Dr. Marc Jan Eumann underlined: “We want to improve chances for North Rhine-Westphalian proposers in the European research programmes. In 2012 alone, calls for tender amounting to ten billion Euro are expected. It is worth every effort to identify and implement sustainable research projects in cooperation with international partners”.
In the workshops, researchers from science and business in NRW had the opportunity to network with European partners, with the objective of forming joint research consortia. In the thematic sessions, 96 researchers presented their ideas and expertise on the topics of:
- Nano and production technologies
- Life sciences
- Support for mobility of researchers, in particular within networks between science and business.
Partner regions this year were Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Switzerland and Russia.
With Dr. Joanna Drake, Director for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Entrepreneurship from the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General, the dinner speech was held by a second prominent guest from the European Commission. She associated the airplanes taking off at the venue with the Wright brothers, who persistently followed their dream of flying and ultimately created one of the most important inventions of our time. Joanna Drake encouraged the researchers in the audience to pursue their goals with the same tenacity.
Event organiser on behalf of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research is NRW.Europa, which is run by ZENIT GmbH and is the NRW node of the Enterprise Europe Network, the European innovation support network.
