    Webinar with Coordinators of Projects supported by the IncoNet EaP/CA Twinning Grants

    The IncoNet EaP and IncoNet CA projects jointly organised two calls for twinning grants. A third call – targeting only the Eastern Partnership region – has been pre-announced for September 2016. The main objective of the twinning instrument is to increase the participation of Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries in EU calls. In order to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of this funding instrument, the DLR Project Management Agency organised a short webinar session with coordinators of projects supported by the twinning grants on 27 July 2016.

    Innovation Training in Tajikistan

    The IncoNet CA project organised a 2-day Innovation Training in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 14-15 June 2016. The seminar tackled basic questions such as 'What is Innovation?' as well as offered insights and advice on business models for international science, technology and innovation cooperation, responsible research, and intellectual property rights.     Young Researchers Forum in Central Asia: Cooperation Perspectives with the European Union on Climate Change, Energy and Health in the context of Horizon 2020

    The 'Young Researchers Forum in Central Asia' took place on 9 June 2016, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in the framework of the IncoNet CA project. The Forum was jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Central Asian Agency of Cooperation for Development (CAACD), and the Centre for Regional & International STI Studies & Support (CeRISS).

    Expert Group Meetings for Recommendations on EU-CA Science, Technology & Innovation Cooperation in 'Energy', 'Health' and 'Climate Change'

    The FP7-funded Projects IncoNet CA and IncoNet EaP organised a series of Expert Group Meetings. The meetings were part of an evaluation of the outcomes of the major activities in three topics, namely: Health, Climate Change and Energy, addressed by the IncoNet CA and IncoNet EaP projects. In addition, the Expert Group Meetings aimed to provide recommendations for the future of EU-CA and EU-EaP cooperation in these fields. To that purpose, one Expert Group Meeting for each topic was organised for each of the two target regions 'Eastern Partnership' and 'Central Asia', making it six workshops altogether.

    Three Webinars for NCP Structures in CA and EaP Countries

    The IncoNet EaP and IncoNet CA projects jointly organised a small series of webinars to enhance the capacities of Horizon 2020 National Contact Points in the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian Counries. The last webinar in this series focused on the 'Participant Portal', the single-entry point to interact with the Research Programmes of the European Commission, which offers tools to manage and monitor proposals and projects.

    Policy Stakeholders Conference on ‘EU-Central Asia STI Cooperation in addressing Health’

    This Policy Stakeholders Conference (PSC) organised by the IncoNet CA project addressed 'Health' as one of the societal challenges that are of mutual importance to Europe and Central Asia. Earlier PSCs had tackled 'Climate Change' and 'Energy' issues. The aim of the latest conference was to take stock and showcase best practices regarding EU-CA scientific cooperation, discuss concrete innovation cooperation projects, and promote international collaboration, networking, matchmaking. The event also provided an opportunity to present projects from the region as well as best practice examples.

    IncoNet CA session at the Healthy Aging Research Conference (HARC 2016)

    With the support of the IncoNet CA project 4 health experts from Cenral Asia took part in the 2nd Conference of the 'Healthy Aging Research Centre' project in Łódź, Poland on 11-13 May 2016. The conference aimed to provide a review of recent advances in the field of healthy and active ageing, and a forum to discuss  the gap between major scientific discoveries and patient benefits. A dedicated Central Asia satellite event provided the speakers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan with an adequate platform to present their perpectives.

    These EU-Central Asia cooperation projects have made a difference

    Have you ever wondered about the outcome of the many international STI cooperation projects the EU is involved in? So have the partners in the IncoNet CA project. They have compiled a list of noteworthy deliverables from EU-Central Asia cooperation projects that are available to the public: The related projects have e.g. made a significant contribution to development of national health standards; improved the quality of services in health facilities; trained young scientists in molecular diagnostics; researched infectious diseases; introduced of innovative methods of teaching; or developed sustainable land management practices.

    Success Story: The Twinning Grants

    Twinning has a long tradition in Europe as an efficient instrument in the capacity building process. It was successfully used in the building of the governmental capacities in the New Member States and afterwards it was inherited in many other areas (governmental institutions, municipal organisations, universities, schools etc.). Furthermore many FP7 NCP projects use twinning as an instrument to build capacities in other countries. The IncoNet CA consortium used this instrument to enhance EU-Central Asia S&T cooperation and to increase capacities on both sides.

    English-Russian Online Glossary of Terms frequently occurring in International STI Cooperation Activities

    A glossary of terms frequently used in international science, technology and innovation cooperation, has recently been published by IncoNet CA partner InExCB-KZ (Independent Expert Consulting Board to Promote Scientific Research Activity in Kazakhstan). It lists frequently used terms in English and Russian, plus a short definition of the respective term in both languages.
